Hello there! Writing from New Zealand here---checked your wonderful website but failed to locate my ancestors Tetje Abels Halsema (baptised 24 Feb. 1667 Loppersum, married to Egbert Claesens de Wilde), daughter of Abel Luies Halsema (born around 1635 Loppersum, married to Remcke Claeses 19 Oct. 1662 Loppersum), son of Luie Halsema from Loppersum. They apparently also called themselves Van Halsema according to some. Who were they and how do they relate to your genealogy? Are we related to Schelte Reinjes Halsema or not?

Thanks for any info!!

I am so happy to have found this site. My Grandmother was Martha Halsema Vanderkolk. I have been trying to find out where in Holland her family comes from, so I can plan a trip there some day. Now I can find out information on the family history.

I have started researching my family name. The first steps were to travel back to Italy and speak to relatives to document dates, names and relationships. I then moved on to the internet research and came upon this site. It looks like I need to get in touch with organizations that can research church , military, census and marriage records. Any little bit of guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I have traced back to a great grandfather in the Garfagnana region of Tuscany. Near Fociandora.

Thank you,
Julian Lunardi

My name is Karen Cabrera. I'm writing in behalf of my dear friend Jose Manuel Diaz de Teran, a descendent from the Minorcans that labored the indigo fields in New Smyrna. Unfortunately, my friend lives in Spain, doesn't speak English, and it's difficult for him to further his search. I have done extensive research in the Historical Society of St. Augustine, St. Ambrose Church, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine (As well as many sources in Spain). What we are looking for is not there. I came across this incredible website and decided to ask for help.

My friend and I would like to find information regarding the following:

-the ancestors of Juana Estefanopoli, daughter of Cristobal Estefanopoli, who married Manuel Vazquez Lopez in St. Augustine on January 7, 1802. She may have been a member of the Orthodox church before her marriage.
-any children born of the abovementioned marriage
-the manner and/or cause of death of Jose Vazquez Lopez, Manuel's brother, who was in the army and died on September 25, 1796. We have been unable to locate his death record.

Any information on this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely

Karen Cabrera

Hello Karen, Thank you for taking the time to post to our guestbook.
I have seen some notes on Juana Estefanopoli, daughter of Nicolas Estefanopoli and Juana Marin, marrying a Manuel and having four children. I do not have records, but perhaps can find you some source citations so that you may obtain the records. If you think this is the correct family, let me know, and I will pursue it further. --Doug Halsema

Hi, Ruth Ann, it's good to hear from you. The easiest way to find information in our genealogy database is to do a search using a person's name at the top genealogy page (select "Genealogical Database" from the halsema.org home page). Typing Louise Moore into the search box, and changing the search to look for "First name surname", will send you directly to the page with information on your grandmother. On that page you can click on the various links to move up and down the family tree, generate a list of ancestors or descendants, etc.

We have a little bit different list of siblings for your great grandfather. Our database shows Lambertus, Cornelius, Jan, Lourent, Sijbrand, William, Martina, Bernardus, Martinus, and Nicolaas. We have the following detailed data on Willem (William) Halsema:
William, born on 16 October 1877, Texel, NH, NL, died on 12 February 1956, Lafayette, IN, USA, buried in 1956, St. Boniface, Lafayette, IN, USA (age at death: 78 years old).

Married on 14 January 1907, Lafayette, IN, USA, to Bertha Zink, born on 16 January 1888, Lafayette, IN, USA, died on 15 June 1963, Lafayette, IN, USA, buried in 1963, St. Boniface, Tippecanoe, Lafayette, IN, USA (age at death: 75 years old).

We have the following children listed for William and Bertha: Louise, Dorothy, Edward, Robert, Margaret, Carl, Gertrude, William, Bertha Betty, Rita.

While we try to have as much detail as possible in our database, including dates for important events, much of the detail will only display on the internet for people that were born more than 105 years ago. If your interested in particular information on you line, let me know and I can tell you if we have it.

We're also working to improve the accuracy of our information by having copies of key documents (birth certificates, marriage certifications, courthouse records, etc.). If you have anything that you can add, or corrections to any of the information, we'd be very interested. ---Paul

Great site with a lot of good information related to Minorcan heritage. For those interested in Minorcan heritage and history related to New Smyrna, Turnbull Colony and St. Augustine, FL. The University of Florida has posted an index of the East Florida Papers, (Spains official documentation of activities during their presence in Florida in the Second Spanish Period), which contain a lot of information related to the Minorcans of Florida.

Nice web site, a bit understated, but the antique documents are interesting. Several years ago, the web site included many photos. Are they gone because of the expense involved?

It's good to hear from you. The web site has been rearranged several times over the years. Photos are now located under the specific family that they relate to (for instance, select Henry Andrew Halsema then Photo Gallery under the people section on the main page) or the location (for instance, select San Antonio, Florida under the Places column on the main page) ---Paul

I am looking for information on Lean Halsema (death 9 July 1955) she was married to Henry Robrock (birth 1873 death 29 September 1912). The had a daughter Mary Margaret Robrock (birth 1905 death 24th April 1983) Mary Margaret was married to Edward L Pechin (birth 1901 death 13 May 1990) they were my gramdparents. I have started a family tree (very green on how to do this) so information you can give me would be great. I do know that Mary Margaret and Ed had 6 children (Rosemary, John, Robert, Thomas, Jim and Jane).

Having moved to Tennessee last spring I have lost contact with Joanne Fines in Manassas, Virginia. I have appreciated all the entries that she has made to the Basil Albert Halsema family history. I don't believe the last time that I was here that some of the news events was a part of the Halsema.org site. I really found this to be very interesting and even learned a few things about my father and the marriage of suprise of my parents. I am sharing this site with my daughter to introduce her to her long line of heritage and honor of knowing her family.
